A “TRAINING WORKSHOP ON THE NEW EITI STANDARD AND THE USE OF EITI DATA” OPENS IN BRAZZAVILLE

From Tuesday April 16 to Thursday April 18, 2024 in Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), Expertise France-Groupe Agence française de développement (AFD) is organizing, in collaboration with the National Committee for the Initiative for Transparency in the Extractive Industries (CN-ITIE ) of this country, a “Training workshop on the new EITI Standard and the use of EITI data”

The work, which was opened by the Permanent Secretary of the Executive Committee of the CN-ITIE-Congo, Mr. Florent Michel OKOKO, saw the participation of the Director of French-speaking Africa, North Africa and the Middle East of the International Secretariat of the EITI, Mr. Nassim BENNANI KABCHI.

For three days, the participants, namely: representatives of the Multi-Stakeholder Group (Congolese State, extractive companies; Civil Society) will be made aware mainly of the new EITI Standard: that of 2023, In this case, through presentations on the new provisions of this Standard (Requirements related to National Revenue Mobilization; Financial modeling and national revenue mobilization; Opportunities for greater National Revenue Mobilization (fight against corruption, beneficial owners, energy transition, ASGM, local content), etc.

On the use of EITI data, presentations focused on strengthening revenue mobilization; combating corruption risks;informing investment decisions; information on the energy transition; impact measurement; supports open data.

Note that the Workshop in the Congolese capital is part of the Solidarity Fund for Innovative Projects (FSPI) project, the financing of which was validated by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, with a view to to strengthen the governance of extractive industries in several countries, including Congo-Brazzaville, through the EITI.

As a reminder, the EITI aims to advance transparency on payments resulting from the exploitation of natural resources (oil, gas, mines, forests) and their responsible management.

The EITI brings together, on a voluntary basis, 55 producing States (including 24 African countries); 15 supporting states including France; more than 80 extractive companies; and some 700 organizations representing civil society.

The Republic of Congo, which joined the EITI in 2004, has been implementing this Standard since 2014. It obtained its second EITI validation in March 2023, with a moderate score of nearly 75%.
