World Customs Organization - The 7th Training and Human Resources Managers Workshop for the West and Central African Region opens in Brazzaville

25 Sep, 2017

From Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th  September, 2017, the Republic of the Congo will host the 7th workshop of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Working Group  on Human Resources Management and Training for the West and Central African region.

The workshop, which is being held at the WCO Regional Training Center(RTC) located within the General directorate of customs and Indirect tax ( GDCIT) in Brazzaville, was opened by Mr. Emmanuel Akouala-Mpan, Principal Private Secretary of the Congolese Minister of finance and budget, honourable Calixte Nganongo.  The theme of the workshop is - "What human resources policies can be implemented in West and Central Africa in order to take up  the challenges  related  to the customs administrations performance? ". Nearly 22 participants are taking part in the workshop.

Five speeches were made at the opening ceremony. They were followed by a lecture on the theme :"What human resources management initiatives can be taken  in order to take up the challenges related to the West and Central African Customs administrations (WCACA) performance".

The proceedings are taking place  at a time when the Five-Year Strategic Plan 2013-2017 is coming to an end and the new Strategic Plan 2018-2022 is about to be launched ". Our three -day proceedings will be crucial for the future of our administrations over the next five years. We are at the bedside of a region sick of its human resources. So,  we must, during our proceedings,  answer the following important four questions: Where do we stand following  the end of the Strategic Plan 2013-2017? What are our objectives as regard  the 2018-2022 strategy? How to achieve  them and  what resources are available?"  asked Souleymane Sangare, director of the Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) of the  West and Central African region of the WCO, in his speech.

As a reminder, the Brazzaville proceedings  follows on the 6th regional workshop held from 24th to 26th February ,2016 in Abuja (Nigeria).
