Working visit of the President of the Ministerial Committee of the Central African Monetary Union (UMAC) to Bangui

On the High Instructions of His Excellency Mr. Denis Sassou-N'Guesso, President of the Republic of Congo and dedicated President of the Economic and Financial Reforms Program of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (PREF-CEMAC), Mr. Jean -Baptiste Ondaye, Congolese Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Congo and President of the Ministerial Committee of the Central African Monetary Union (UMAC), paid, Thursday June 1, 2023, a working visit to Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic (CAR).
On this occasion, the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Congo was received in audience by His Excellency, Professor Faustin Archange Touadera, President of the Central African Republic and current President of the Conference of Heads of State. State of CEMAC.
This visit, which took place three months after the Conference of Heads of State, held in Yaoundé (Cameroon) in March 2023, was an opportunity to take stock of the implementation of the main recommendations of this important meeting, to provide clear guidance and specify the next steps in these reforms.
These concern, in particular, the evolution of monetary cooperation, negotiations with the extractive industries sector and the reflection on the adoption of a digital currency from the Bank of Central African States (BEAC).
At the end of this audience, the current President of CEMAC, His Excellency Professor Faustin Archange Touadera, instructed the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Congo, in his capacity as President of the Ministerial Committee of the UMAC, to take all measures with a view to convening an extraordinary session of the said Committee.
Let us recall that the Minister of Economy and Finance of Congo-Brazzaville had succeeded Hervé Ndona, outgoing Central African Minister of Finance and Budget, as president of the UMAC Ministerial Committee, for a mandate of one year.
