French President's working visit to Brazzaville

Congo signs two Financing Agreements with two French technical and financial partners
03 Mar, 2023
Jean-Baptiste Ondaye, Minister of Economy and Finance, representing the Congolese government, and Nicolas Dufourcq, Managing Director of the Public Investment Bank of France (Bpifrance), representing the French party, signed on Friday March 3, 2023 , at the Presidency of the Republic, two Financing Agreements between Congo and two French technical and financial partners, namely: AFD and Bpifrance.

According to the Congolese Minister of Economy and Finance, "the signing, on the one hand, of the KOPEKOBA Program Financing Agreement between the Republic of Congo and the French Development Agency (AFD), and on the other hand , of the Agreement for the application of services between the Banque Publique d'Investissement Française (Bpifrance) and the Impulse, Guarantee and Support Fund (FIGA) of Congo, translates, in a concrete way, the dynamism of the partnership between our two countries".

In this regard, he continued, "this is the place to recall some of the actions which testify, eloquently, to the vitality of the Paris-Brazzaville axis, namely: 15 Projects, financed by the Debt reduction and development contract (CD2), for an overall envelope of 229 million Euros; 3 sovereign loans, amounting to 232 million Euros, dedicated to the Energy, Water and Sanitation sectors of precarious neighborhoods in the city of Brazzaville; 2 Budget support instructions, for a total amount of 112 million Euros, of which 75 million have been disbursed to date”.

The support from which FIGA has just benefited is an important contribution to the process of economic diversification, in which the Congolese Government is committed, through the National Development Plan (PND) 2022-2026, given that it acts as support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and very small craft enterprises (TPEA).

The KOPEKOBA Program, for its part, places the Partnership between France and the Congo at the very heart of the problem of the rational management of the forests and peatlands of the Congo Basin, the second ecological lung of the planet after the Amazon.

Jean-Baptiste Ondaye clarified, in this regard, that the signing of the KOPEKOBA Program Financing Agreement, which took place the day after the One Forest Summit held from Wednesday March 1 to Thursday March 2, 2023 in Libreville (Gabon), "is for our two Heads of State (who took part) the most significant way of linking action to words, within the framework of this major challenge which involves the survival of Humanity: I mean the preservation of 'Environment ".

The brilliance of the signing ceremony of the two Financing Agreements was enhanced in particular by the presence of Mrs. Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, French Secretary of State to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in charge of development, Francophonie and international partners; and Rémy Rioux, Director General of the French Development Agency.
