The General Manager of Banque Populaire Caisse d'Epargne Internationale (BPCEI), Jean Pierre Levayer, a national of France, made the announcement on Friday, February 2, 2018 in Brazzaville following the talk he had with the Minister of Finance and Budget, honourable Calixte Nganongo.
According to the Minister's interlocutor, a new majority shareholder will take over and work with Banque Commerciale Internationale (BCI) whose task is to meet the economic needs of its customers. "BPCEI will no more be involved directly but indirectly, because we do not want to leave Africa. We want to stay on the continent in order to be involved in its development process", he said.
As for BPCEI, Jean Pierre Levayer said that the Bank wants to change its international strategy and is now looking for a new partner to make banks international, specially in Africa. The partner may be pan-African or French.
As regard the financial health of BCI-Congo, the general manager of BPCEI reassured that the Bank results are good, despite the difficult situation the country is experiencing. " Our financial situation is good and this meets our expectations. We also abide by the Congolese rules and meet the requirements of the existing rules and in terms of risks, and we are careful about them", he concluded.
